Two-component epoxy primer for industrial use with very good anti-corrosion properties.
Area of use:
Stålplast Primer CA is intended for use on bare metal surfaces or aluminium that are subsequently to be coated with spray filler or topcoat. This is done primarily to stabilize the paint system.
Pre-treatment:
All surfaces intended to be coated with Stålplast Primer CA must be clean and free from grease, oil, and the like.
Instructions for use:
A-comp. and B-comp. are mixed in equal parts by volume (e.g., 1 litre of A-comp. is mixed with 1 litre of B-comp. and stirred thoroughly).
Thinning:
If thinning is desired, this can be done with cellulose thinner. Particularly if the finish paint (topcoat) is to be applied directly onto the primer, or in cases of so-called intermediate spraying, i.e., if one wants to isolate spray filler and the like with a layer of Stålplast Primer CA, it is very important that the primer is allowed to flow out properly. Thinning with cellulose thinner achieves this flow. If poor flow is obtained, the paint may exhibit an orange-peel character, which negatively affects the gloss.
Drying time:
Stålplast Primer CA must be dry and matte before other work steps are carried out.
Sanding:
Stålplast Primer CA is best sanded wet (however, remove the water as soon as possible after sanding). During dry sanding, a certain "toughness" in the primer is noticeable, which makes sanding more difficult. Sanding is almost only relevant on cured primer. Normally, Stålplast Primer CA does not need to be sanded before overcoating with topcoat. As a rule, if the primer is left for over 4–5 hours before overcoating, it should be sanded. When anti-corrosion painting steel and aluminium structures where Stålplast Primer CA alone is to provide the corrosion protection, layer thicknesses of 70–80 microns are sprayed in two passes for best results.
When coating with CA-primer plus spray filler on galvanized sheet metal, the CA-primer must dry for at least 2 hours before the application of spray filler.
