Product description
Pre-treatment
The substrate must be clean and dry before painting begins. New wood that has remained untreated for more than 4 weeks should be wire-brushed before treatment with Gjøco Oil Primer. Apply 1 coat of Gjøco Oil Primer to new and bare wood, including pressure-treated wood. All end grain must be thoroughly saturated with Gjøco Oil Primer, 3–4 coats wet-on-wet.
On planed wood, sharp edges, and other glossy surfaces, wire brushing/sanding may be necessary to ensure adhesion and good edge coverage. Previously treated wood should be treated with Gjøco Power Wash to remove grease and other contaminants.
Previously oil-stained or opaque-stained wood should be brushed clean of loose stain and wood fibers with a wire brush/sanding. Bare wood is primed with Gjøco Oil Primer and painted with Gjøco Exclusive Door & Window Oil Paint.
All end grain must be thoroughly saturated with Gjøco Oil Primer, 3–4 coats wet-on-wet.
Application
Gjøco Exclusive Door & Window Oil Paint is ready to use and should normally not be thinned. Apply 2 coats on new unplaned timber and 3 coats on new planed timber. For previously stained, opaque-stained, or painted wood, apply 1–2 coats as needed, or 3 coats on planed timber. Ensure all end grain is sufficiently saturated (3–4 coats).
Storage
Close the lid tightly when storing paint to prevent spills and drying out. The paint must be transported and stored upright, in a dry and frost-free place.
Waste management
Liquid paint must not be poured into drains or the environment but must be taken to an approved collection point for hazardous waste. Empty, clean, and dry packaging is delivered to an approved receiver.
Other information
Any oil that has risen to the surface should be stirred thoroughly for a while before use. Contents of cans with different production numbers should be mixed before use to avoid gloss and color differences.
Dew on a semi-dry surface can cause dull spots. Dull spots can also occur when drying at low temperatures and high humidity. Sun on a wet or semi-dry surface can cause blistering. Dark colors that reach high temperatures in the sun are more prone to solar blistering than light colors. Therefore, avoid application in direct sunlight.
Paint on fire-retardant cladding can cause peeling/salt efflorescence. Dark, sharp, and clear colors will be more prone to fading on weather-exposed walls than light colors.
Substrates previously treated with linseed oil or pure linseed oil stain must be cleaned down to bare wood to ensure against subsequent blistering. Previous tar treatment can cause discoloration. Perform a test coat.
