Which surfaces is the product suitable for?
Exterior Linseed Oil Primer is intended for wooden surfaces used outdoors, such as window sashes, casings, and joinery. It is particularly suitable when painting occurs indoors in a workshop where solvents should be avoided.
How long does the paint last?
Linseed oil paint is known for its long service life. With correct pre-treatment and overpainting with Exterior Linseed Oil Paint, the system can last for many years. Regular maintenance extends the life even further.
What does vapor-permeable mean?
Linseed oil paint is naturally vapor-permeable, meaning the wood can breathe and release moisture without the paint film cracking. This reduces the risk of flaking and rot.
How much do I need?
Expect 12–15 m² per liter. A 1-liter container is sufficient for a standard window with frame and sash several times over.
What temperature can I paint in?
The daily temperature should exceed +10°C for the stated drying time. Do not paint in strong direct sunlight or if there is a risk of rain or heavy dew.
Do I need to prime?
Yes, Exterior Linseed Oil Primer is the primer itself. It is painted undiluted in one layer on clean, dry wood and then overpainted with two layers of Exterior Linseed Oil Paint.
Is the product environmentally friendly?
Yes, linseed oil paint is one of the most natural alternatives available. The product is based on cold-pressed Swedish linseed oil and has an extremely low VOC content (<30 g/l). NOTE: Rags soaked in linseed oil can self-ignite – place them in a fireproof container or in water.
Can I paint myself or do I need a painter?
You can paint yourself with a round or oval brush. Follow the instructions carefully, especially regarding pre-treatment and saturating end grain and joints thoroughly for the best results.
Pre-treatment
Ensure that the wood is scraped clean, dry, and free from loose dust. The moisture content must not exceed 16%. Brush away loose dust and scrape away old, cracked paint. Be particularly thorough with end grain and joints where moisture easily penetrates.
Application
Always stir well from the bottom before use. Prime undiluted with Exterior Linseed Oil Primer in one layer – saturate end grain and joints so that the paint is absorbed thoroughly. Let dry for 24–48 hours. Then apply a thin intermediate coat of undiluted Exterior Linseed Oil Paint and finish with a final coat. Use a round or oval brush – if another application method is used, the paint must always be finished with a brush.
