NCS is a color system used worldwide (Natural Color System) that ensures you get the exact right shade of your paint every time.

The color codes always have four digits indicating the shade, followed by at least one letter and possibly more digits. Most codes begin with the letter S – and it is important to know whether your favorite color has that S in its code or not.

Your favorite color in numbers and letters

The first pair of digits in the code shows the percentage of blackness in the color, and the second pair of digits indicates the chromaticness in percent.

Example:

The shade is 4020 – with 40% blackness and 20% chromaticness.

The letters after the digits correspond to one of the colors below. They help to describe 10 million colors.

Grayscale without color hues

Pure gray colors lack a color hue entirely, and the code therefore consists of four digits and the letter N for neutral.

Example:

The shade is 4000 – with 40% blackness and 0% chromaticness.
