FAQ
Which surfaces is Hagmans Anti-Rust Primer suitable for?
The primer is intended for metal surfaces that are to be topcoated – cars, caravans, equipment, tools, and similar metal surfaces. It is not suitable for wood or concrete.
How long does the rust protection last?
With proper surface preparation and one or more layers of primer followed by topcoat, you provide the surface with long-lasting protection against rust and corrosion. How long it lasts depends on the environment and how well the surface was prepared.
How much do I need?
Expect 6–8 m² per liter. For small repairs and touch-ups, 300ml goes a long way. For larger surfaces or multiple layers – choose 1L or 5L.
What temperature can I apply it in?
Apply at normal room temperatures or outdoors in dry weather. Avoid application in extreme cold or high humidity as this negatively affects the drying time.
Do I need to prime before using the primer?
No – the primer is the base coat itself. The most important thing is that the surface is well cleaned of dirt, grease, and oil before application.
Is the product environmentally friendly?
Yes – Hagmans Anti-Rust Primer is chromate-free, which makes it more environmentally friendly than traditional chrome-based anti-rust primers. Keep in mind that the thinner Xylene is solvent-based – use protective equipment and ensure good ventilation.
Can I use it myself or do I need a painter?
You can easily use it yourself with a brush or spray gun. Follow the pre-treatment instructions carefully and you will get a professional result.
Pre-treatment
Surfaces to be treated must be well cleaned of dirt, grease, oil, and the like before application. Remove loose rust with a wire brush or sandpaper. Wipe the surface thoroughly and let it dry completely.
Application
Apply an even layer over the surface with a brush – preferably several layers with drying time in between. Can also be applied by spraying for a smoother result on larger surfaces. Coverage: 6–8 m²/liter. Recoatable after 30 minutes–3 hours, or after 5 days with most common paints. Thinning and cleaning agents: Xylene or Thinner 450/2.
