Description
Elastic, acetic-curing 1-component silicone with excellent processing properties. Fast curing with atmospheric humidity to a durable, elastic seal with very good resistance to moisture, weathering, and aging. Very good adhesion without primer pretreatment on glass, enamel, and ceramic surfaces.

Area of application:
Due to its very high resistance to moisture, weather, and aging, this 1-component silicone sealant is particularly well-suited for use in sanitary areas in accordance with EN 15651 part 3, e.g., for elastic sealing of expansion joints on tiled walls, for bathtubs, shower trays, shower enclosures, and seals in the kitchen, as well as on metal/glass surfaces.

For improved microbiological resistance, GS231 contains a fungicide.
Preparation:
Cleaning the bonding surface:
- The bonding surface must always be clean, i.e., dust-free, grease-free, walkable, and air-dried.
- Due to the many different building materials and substrates, GS231 should as a general rule always be tested on a small area first.
Jointing:
For optimal joint profiles, backing rod of the type PR102 can be used. For joints with small joint depth, PE foil can be used instead of a backing rod. Substrates and surfaces must be compatible with GS231. Substrates or other materials that come into contact with GS231 containing oil, tar, or bitumen should not be used, nor should materials containing natural rubber, chloroprene, or EPDM.
Priming the bonding surface:
Good adhesion is achieved on a variety of substrates without the use of a primer, such as glass, tile, and enamel. For recommendations on the use of primer where pretreatment may be required, see the primer table. Avoid contamination with primer on the joint edges. If necessary, remove immediately with a suitable cleaning agent.
Application:
Mask with tape for neat and distinct joints. Apply GS231 evenly and without air bubbles into the joints and smooth out within the skin formation time using soapy water. Remove any tape immediately after finishing the jointing.
Cleaning:
Uncured sealant that has not yet hardened can be removed with acetone or xylene. Note that the cleaning agents can affect surrounding substrates and surfaces. Hardened material can only be removed mechanically using a suitable tool, e.g., a knife or razor blade.
