Soft, rot-damaged wood must be replaced and grey, weather-worn wood removed. Leave the protection in place until the paint is fully water-resistant. When changing colors on a facade previously painted with distemper, it is important to brush off the original distemper thoroughly so that the older pigments do not affect the new paint.
